This was one of the best meals and dining experiences I have ever had in my life. I love Jose Andres and have enjoyed many of his establishments, but this was next level. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous and located within the very glamorous Waldorf Astoria hotel so off the bat it's visually beautiful setting. My husband and I dined with my Yelp bestie and her boyfriend and she wanted to go hard (I was blessed to be treated for this meal) and us all do the Joe's Ultimate Experience which was their high end tasting menu of 12 courses (FYI if you are going to do one of the tasting menus all at the table have to do it and the same one). This was a lot of food so come hungry and it's all so good you will somehow find the room. I will share a little about each course we had for those that want to know if it's worth the price tag (the answer is yes) or order individually. Round 1. I'm gonna be honest we hoped the Jamon Iberico Spanish ham would be served in its traditional preparation from the animal, but alas it was just a delicious pre sliced plate. Still the best ham there is and it was served with some yummy tomato bread. I don't like Olives but in the spirit of the evening I tried both the modern and traditional served option. These were by far the best and most inventive ones I've ever had. If you like olives you will love these. Round 2. The Caviar cone was such a cute presentation and you just felt fancy eating it l. From its gold leaf detail to the caviar to the creaminess of the creme fraiche. Yum! The Dragon fruit ceviche was a surprise favorite dish. Served on a big ice bed with lots of foam. The dish was incredibly refreshing and the pecan and avocado with the fruit was just a great unexpected combination. The Maryland blue crab "ensaladilla" was like a high end potato salad and a lovely nod to the area. Round 3. The Brussel sprouts brought a nice palate cleanser and more foam. I'd never had apricots with Brussels but I might start. The Oxtail croquetas were delish. Nice and crispy fritters that were quite flavorful from the meat to the bechamel. Ok the "Philly cheesesteak" was another favorite. Loved the elevated interpretation of this dish. The wagyu beef was so tender and the air bread so fluffy and light. The cheddar cheese brought it all together. Wish I could get 10 of these at my local sub shop. Round 4. Ora king salmon "en papillote" was served table side. The salmon was poached in a bag and had a great sauce underneath and crispy quinoa on top. So tender and tasty. We were served pieces to share between the two couples. The Green asparagus was the freshest and best asparagus I've ever had. To be honest I don't think I've ever had it peeled. It was a pretty and bright plate with a lovely crisp and sauce on top. The final savory course of the Pluma iberica de bellota was divine. The pork steak was tender and flavorful and the accompaniments were on point. First potato purée which we were told included more butter and fat than you wanna know about but dang they were incredible. It also came with a mojo verde and pinenut-garlic sauce and they were both great on the pork. We were served two pieces to share between the four of us. I didn't think I'd have room to eat it with everything else, but no chance I wasn't enjoying every morsel. Round 5. Dessert was an assortment of 5 different sweets. They were all good but honestly didn't compare to the savory experience I had just had. Honestly my favorite part of the hilarious muscle dog tray to was served on. As a final intense plate cleanser we ordered the caipirinha cocktail which here is created table side using liquid nitrogen and served frozen. I don't know if I will ever get to experience this again (a girl can hope) but if you are truly to have a truly exceptional meal and want to be fancy as all get out come to The Bazar and get the Joe's Ultimate Experience. Also the service here is superb as one would expect This is a meal you will talk about for a while.
Sat on the second floor which overlooks the Waldorf Astoria lobby and affords a look at the old Post Office Tower. Interesting but not very intimate and a bit bizarre. Had an order of the jamon iberico with pan de Cristal to start. They carve the ham tableside which was fun. We then got the $165 tasting menu. My favorites were the crab Louie cone, Neptune's pillows, tortilla de patatas "new way", and the steak and piqillo. Personally I thought it was a lot of food. Service was friendly and attentive. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Absolutely enamored by my experience at The Bazaar last night. We were seated upstairs and had an excellent view of the lobby all decked out with massive Christmas trees covered in baubles. We decided to go all out with the ultimate tasting and it didn't disappoint. Service was amazing with our server leading the way and many others kindly changing our plates/silverware and explaining the dishes as they came out. It's a very decadent experience and I loved every moment! Some of my favorite dishes were the caviar cone and the "Philly cheesesteak" though others were deliciously surprising, like the dragon fruit ceviche-which was unlike anything I've ever eaten. I can't wait to come back and try the other tasting menu next year!
Wow. The food and presentation here is incredible. I absolutely loved dining here. Service was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable and was able to easily offer alternatives for dietary restrictions. All of his recommendations were spot on. The restaurant overlooks the Waldorf Astoria hotel and the decor is elegant and inviting. I was enamored the second I walked in. The dishes are creative and so full of flavor. Loved the caviar and crab louie cones. They are small bites packed with flavor. The 'Rossejat' Negra is a take on paella that we really enjoyed. The dragon fruit ceviche was divine. The sweet chips, which were recommended, was delightful. I can be really picky with eggplant, and the Eggplant Escalivada was excellent. After dinner, I recommend the tableside port. I highly recommend a visit here. This a dining experience not to be missed.
I had my fanciest dining experience to date at José Andres' Bazaar. It was the quarterly bonus dinner to end all quarterly bonus dinners. As we perused the menu, we quickly determined that it would be impossible to curate a meal on our own with all the amazing choices. Thankfully they take out the guess work by offering two different tasting experiences. In the spirit of decadence, we decided on José's Ultimate Experience. To accompany our meal we ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir, and my boyfriend ordered the salt air margarita. The margarita was an eccentric take on a classic with complimentary sweet and savory components. Our first bite of José's Ultimate Experience was the marinated 'Ferrnan Adrià' olives. The traditional olives were to be expected, but the modern olives stole the show for me. I had never had anything quite like it! Next we had the Jamón Ibérico de Bellota. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get the full experience of having it freshly cut for us tableside. The meat still melted on your tongue deliciously, and I really enjoyed the pan con tomate that was served with it. Our next course included the Caviar Cone, Dragon Fruit Ceviche, and the Maryland Blue Crab "Ensaladilla." The ceviche was my favorite of this course with all the interesting textural components playing together. My boyfriend was a big fan of the blue crab dish since it was a fancy take on potato salad. The next course was Brussel Sprouts, Oxtail Croqueta, and "Philly Cheesesteak." At this point it became clear that José Andres is a big fan of incorporating air into his dishes, as the brussel sprouts were served that way. The Oxtail croquettes were the table winner of this round with their perfect mouthfeel, but it was closely followed by the Philly Cheesesteak interpretation. The Philly cheesestake was like eating a high end stuffed crust with Wagyu beef on top. The final course was composed of mainly proteins: Ora King "en Papillote," Green Asparagus, and Pluma Ibérica de Bellota. The texture of the asparagus was so soft, and the flavor was so light and fresh. The Pluma Ibérica was my favorite dish of the night. It was perfectly cooked and served with pinenut-garlic crocante, mojo verde, and the most decadent potato puree I've ever had. This tends to happen with a 1:1 ratio of potato and butter. I enjoyed combining all the sauces with the pork in different ways. The dessert fell flat for me. I just wasn't impressed by anything in the assortment of desserts, which was disappointing. However, we decided to end the meal with a round of Nitro Caipirinhas. We had attempted to order them at the beginning of our meal, but our server advised against it due to its impact on the pallet. It was entertaining to watch them made tableside with the liquid nitrogen, and the server was definitely right about how it blew out our pallets. I strongly encourage anyone to go to The Bazaar at least once. You won't regret it!
Really great spot in the heart of DC! I went here while there for a conference. It is in a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. Our waiter was fabulous! He was so funny and engaging while also remaining professional. TLDR: must order- sweet chips, Brussel sprouts, and the Philly cheese steak! To start we got the sweet chips, Brussels sprouts and the pisto manchego. The Brussel sprouts were divine! The lemon 'air' was so unique and amazing. The sweet chips were also DELICIOUS and we loved the dip that came with. Amazing! Next we got the not your everyday Caprese, which was good! And we also got the baby Japanese peaches. The the Japanese peaches were so unique and small and had a really great flavor. Next we had the Philly cheese steak and the marinated Terran Adria olives. The olives were super unique, there was a marinated olive with a really interesting flavor. The Philly cheese steak was truly AMAZING and the star of the entire meal in my opinion. It was this crispy bread with a really amazing cheese inside and meat on the top. Absolutely divine! For the main course, we got the oxtail croquettes and the pollo Al ajillo. Both were good! The chicken was good, but probably wouldn't order again For dessert we got the key lime pie, which was great! Really delicious.
Came here for a birthday dinner and today, November 17 2024 for lunch. The tasting menu was fantastic and I was staying the WA hotel time around and stopped by for lunch. I agree with what most people say about the prices for such a small amount of food. But the quality of the ingredients and tastes makes me feel okay paying for the meals here. We enjoyed our lunch. I didn't go all out like we did for dinner. Our server was nice enough and recommended the chicken wings, PATATAS BRAVA, and the crab croquettes for us and my little girl. It was good but everything was fried. To counterbalance it we got the Caesar salad which is very anchovy forward. But the star was EMBUTIDOS SELECTION which he recommended too. It was great. Lots of meats and bread. It was just missing the cheese. The main lobby floor at the hotel is beautifully decorated with fall like color fake tree and sets the mood on the first floor bar area. But why on earth did they buy chairs so heavy? $130 for lunch for two adults one kid and no alcohol drinks.
Came back here with a friend and had an amazing experience. Not only was the food delicious, but our service was top notch. We were never rushed. We were never pressured to order more. And we were checked on just the right amount. The timing of our tapas was also perfect. We never had more than two dishes on the table at once. It was an absolutely wonderful pace. We dined and chatted and shared delicious food for over two hours. The ambiance and vibe in the upstairs area was fabulous. It can get crowded, but we didn't feel crowded. And it didn't feel too loud or anything. All in all, a much better experience! And I discovered even more things that are super yum.
The Bazaar by Jose Andres, is an avant-garde Spanish restaurant, experimenting with traditional Spanish cooking to deliver novel flavor, textures, and experiences. I am super impressed and was blown away with my dining experience - the beautiful atmosphere, the freshness and quality of ingredients, and the culinary technique used to prepare each dish. AMBIANCE Set inside a historic Old Post office building (now the Waldorf Astoria), the space is modern, elevated by cush decor, furniture, and fixtures, and is open to the adjacent, expansive indoor atrium underneath a glass ceiling.
